Wibe grew up in a cycling family. All transportation was by bicycle or public transport. During the long holidays, they went on cycling trips to youth hostels throughout the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. At one point, his parents bought a tandem bike so they could keep up with their three children (aged 10, 12, and 13) on these trips. From the age of 8, Wibe built his own cross bikes, which he used to ride through the mud on construction sites near their home in Beuningen.
